David Rose
David Rose is a specialist criminal defence solicitor with over 30 years’ experience in criminal law. Originally from Liverpool and later raised in Runcorn, David has spent his career at the forefront of criminal defence work, earning a reputation for technical excellence, professional integrity and clear, practical advice.
David qualified as a solicitor in 1994. Prior to qualifying, he worked within the voluntary sector in welfare law, an experience that shaped his long-standing commitment to access to justice and client care. Following qualification, he moved into criminal defence work, which has remained his sole area of practice ever since.
In 2006, David co-founded Rose & Dunn, where he served as Managing Partner. In this role, he was responsible for the firm’s strategic direction, compliance and governance, while continuing to handle complex criminal cases. Under his leadership, the firm developed a strong reputation for high-quality advocacy and professional standards.
A notable achievement during this period was the firm’s registration with the Bar Council, allowing it to operate as a recognised training environment for advocates. David personally oversaw the mentoring and development of two solicitors who went on to qualify as Barristers, reflecting his deep understanding of both branches of the criminal profession.
David became a Higher Court Advocate in 2008 and has since represented clients regularly in the Crown Court, dealing with a wide range of serious and complex criminal matters. He is known for combining strategic oversight with hands-on advocacy, providing clients with clear, honest advice throughout proceedings.
David has also worked within a firm holding Very High Cost Case (VHCC) accreditation and is a Grade A Supervisor for VHCC cases, reflecting his experience in managing and supervising the most serious and complex criminal litigation.
Outside of work, David has a keen interest in theatre and the arts. Having previously pursued high-intensity activities such as potholing and mountaineering, he now enjoys hill walking, preferring challenges that allow time for reflection as well as endurance.
