BLJ Solicitors Announces Plans to Raise Funds for Type 1 Diabetes Charity

Bell Lamb &  Joynson Solicitors has announced global organisation JDRF as its chosen charity of the year for 2019.

The North West legal firm, which has offices in Liverpool, Runcorn and Warrington, hopes to raise over £10,000 of vital funds which will support research into type 1 diabetes through a number of activities over the next 12 months.

The charity is significant to the team at BLJ Solicitors with a number of employees affected by the life-changing autoimmune condition, including Managing Partner Mike Leeman whose son was diagnosed just before his fourth birthday.

Mike said: We are delighted to support this incredible organisation for our first ever chosen charity of the year as a firm. It is a particularly poignant cause for us and one that is close to our hearts. Since my son was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes three years ago, I’ve seen first-hand the effects that this condition can have, and JDRF is the only UK based charity that supports people with type 1 and their families to overcome the challenges that come with the diagnosis. JDRF is working to improve research into the condition with the aim to find a cure altogether and we are proud to help make a contribution towards achieving this.

“We had several charities in mind when deciding on our charity of the year but this was something that all of our employees collectively felt very passionately about and we can’t wait to get stuck into our fundraising activities. We are confident that with our combined efforts we can reach our ambitious goal and raise a significant sum for the charity and at the same time we hope that this process will bring our team closer together on a personal level. We are already busy planning a series of events with all proceeds going directly to JDRF, the first of which will see us run in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Liverpool 5k on May 25.”

BLJ Solicitors will also participate in the charity’s Climb for Type 1 event that will see members of the team hike Scafell Pike whilst staff are also encouraging their children to take part in the One Fun Run at Birkenhead Park, both taking place in June.

JDRF is the world’s leading funder for type 1 diabetes, which affects over 400,000 people in the UK including 29,000 children. The organisation hosts a number of fundraising activities throughout the region and beyond each year.

JDRF Regional Fundraiser for the North West Jude Sutton said: “As a charity we rely heavily on donations and to be named charity of the year for BLJ Solicitors is fantastic for us, particularly as they are hoping to raise such significant funds. Their contributions will help towards world-class research in a bid to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes as well as enabling us to continue to offer invaluable support to those with the condition and their families.”
