Richard is a Senior Associate Solicitor at Bell Lamb & Joynson Solicitors, specialising in family law with a particular focus on representing CAFCASS Guardians in both private and public law proceedings. With over two decades of experience in family law, Richard is highly regarded for his expertise in complex cases involving children and vulnerable parties.

He joined Bell Lamb & Joynson Solicitors in October 2024 and brings extensive experience from a range of respected organisations and firms within the family justice sector.

Education and Qualifications

Richard holds a 2:1 BSc (Hons) degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Salford. He completed the Graduate Diploma in Law and the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law in Chester between 1999 and 2001 and qualified as a Solicitor in 2003.

He also holds a DTLLS Teaching Diploma, awarded by Liverpool Hope University in 2014.

Professional Experience and Background

Richard has worked exclusively in family law since 2001. Prior to joining Bell Lamb & Joynson Solicitors, he worked at Burd Ward Solicitors, NYAS, BDH Solicitors and Cobleys Solicitors. His career has included significant work within both private practice and specialist child representation services.

Richard is particularly experienced in acting for CAFCASS Guardians and undertakes the majority of his own advocacy, alongside managing complex case files from start to finish.

Richard regularly deals with private and public law Guardian cases. His work includes representing CAFCASS Guardians in care proceedings and private law disputes, where he provides robust representation and detailed case management.

He is known for his ability to handle complex court work while maintaining a clear focus on the welfare of the child.

Richard places strong importance on clear communication with all clients and professionals involved in a case. He adopts a kind and sympathetic approach while remaining able to be robust and direct when required, ensuring that cases are progressed effectively and in the best interests of those he represents.

His balanced approach allows him to manage sensitive matters with care while maintaining focus and clarity in challenging situations.

Awards and Recognition

In 2015, Richard was awarded Social Entrepreneur of the Year at the Third Sector Business Awards in recognition of his pro bono family law work. He has also been a speaker at the first male domestic abuse conference held in Liverpool.

Richard is passionate about supporting disadvantaged members of the community and continues to provide pro bono legal guidance and support, particularly through his involvement with the Paul Lavelle Foundation.

Outside of Work

Outside of work, Richard is an active runner and has taken part in numerous races, including several half marathons. He is committed to community support and remains closely involved outside of work.
