Head of People and Culture

Paul is the Head of People and Culture at Bell Lamb & Joynson Solicitors. He holds a CIPD Level 5 qualification in People Management, which supports his work in shaping the firm’s culture, developing its people and strengthening its approach to employee experience.

Paul began his career at Dawsons Music, where he spent many years and eventually became Head of Customer Service. During that time, he discovered a genuine interest in people focused work, which led him to pursue a new direction in HR. His first People role was with an online retail company operating across the UK, Kenya and China. Working with teams from different cultures gave him a deeper understanding of how people approach work, communication and collaboration.

Areas of Work

Paul’s role is entirely centred on people rather than legal casework. He focuses on supporting colleagues, developing processes that help teams thrive and ensuring the firm remains a positive and engaging place to work.

Professional Background & Skills

Paul’s background in customer service taught him the importance of listening, consistency and treating people with fairness. His management experience has shown him that people perform at their best when there is accountability and authenticity. He believes in being open, following through on commitments and creating an environment where individuals feel able to be themselves. He is a natural problem solver and practical thinker who builds strong relationships and motivates others through clarity and purpose.

Approach & Client Care

Paul’s work does not involve client transactions, but his philosophy is simple: be clear, be realistic and deliver what you say you will. He believes that the level of care shown to clients should match the care you would want for a friend or family member.

Outside of Work

Music plays a major role in Paul’s life. Whether he is listening, watching live performances or playing himself, it remains his biggest passion. Both of his sons are musicians, and he spends much of his free time proudly watching them perform. They even play together in the same band, something he considers one of his greatest achievements.
